Field Hockey Topples Monarchs Behind Jones' Hat Trick

Cydney Lahr scored two goals and an assist

Wilkes-Barre Twp., Pa. — Dariane Jones scored her second hat trick of the week in Marywood University's 7-1 win over King's College Thursday in a battle of non-conference field hockey rivals. Marywood won its third consecutive game, all of which came on the road.

Jones scored all three goals within a 10-minute span, each coming in the fourth quarter.

Cydney Lahr finished with two goals and an assist. Lahr supplied the Pacers with an early 1-0 lead with a Jordan Saybe-assisted goal in the ninth minute. She added her second on a tally in the 34th minute to give Marywood a 3-0 advantage.

Lahr's opening goal stood as the game's lone goal until Lauren Youngken knocked in an unassisted goal in the 24th minute.

Youngken finished with a goal and an assist. Cassie Slusser dished a pair of assists.

Ava Howells capped the scoring with her second career goal.

Marywood (4-2) outshot King's 25-7 with a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal. Despite the towering score differential, the Pacers edged the Monarchs 9-8 in penalty corners.

King's Melanie Tlatenchi ended the shutout threat with a goal from Hannah Chocallo in the 57th minute.

Leah Ewing made two saves for the Pacers. Her counterpart Grace Venis made nine stops.

After losing 16 straight games to the Monarchs from 1999 to 2017, Marywood has won four of the past five contests against the Monarchs. Marywood's win ends a streak of two rivalry games that have gone to at least double overtime. The six-goal differential is the largest in series history since at least 2007.

Marywood will play Western Connecticut State for the first time in program history on Saturday at noon.
