Field Hockey Surges Past Juniata, 3-2

Marywood wins fifth consecutive game

Scranton, Pa. - The Marywood University field hockey team secured its fifth consecutive victory with a 3-2 win over Juniata College on Wednesday. After jumping to a three-goal lead, the Pacers held off the Eagles in the final minutes.

Dariane Jones (Lackawanna Trail) finished two assists.

The Pacers opened up the scoring in the 14th minute. Jones found Brie Summer on a penalty corner, who tallied the first goal of the day.

In the 22nd minute, Cydney Lahr added to the Marywood lead, burying a ricochet off of the goalie from a Belle Coleman shot into the back of the cage.

In the 43rd minute, Lauren Youngken got in on the fun, putting Marywood up 3-0. A give-and-go with Jones led to the goal.

Juniata did not go away easy; however, as Colleen Creneti scored the Eagles first goal in the 48th minute of the match, coming off of a Sierra Rodman assist on a penalty corner on their own.

The Eagles continued mounting their comeback with their second goal on a loose ball -- just after a penalty corner in the 56th minute -- scored by Mallory Prince.

With less than two minutes remaining, Aliyah Heintzelman made a defensive stop at midfield to keep the Eagles away from the offensive end of the field.

Juniata's comeback fell short though, as Marywood was able to hang on for the 3-2 victory, securing their 5th straight win while improving to an overall record of 6-2.

The Pacers out-shot the Eagles 19 to 8 and had 10 of those shots on goal, compared to Juniata's three. Marywood also won the penalty corners battle, 14-8.

Lianna Horner recorded one save for the Pacers today. Brittney McCullen (6) and Amanda Puza (1) combined for seven Eagles saves in goal.

Marywood travels to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday as it looks to continue its winning streak
