Mulherin Notches Hat Trick to Guide Pacers Past Roos

Sarah Kretchmer scores her first career goal

Canton, N.Y. — Riley Mulherin scored the first hat trick of her career to guide Marywood University women's soccer to a 5-1 win over SUNY Canton on Saturday. The Pacers improve to 3-5-1 on the season with their win in Upstate New York.

Marywood came back from a one-goal deficit in the early goings to drive in five unanswered goals.

Mulherin finished with a career-best seven points with three goals and an assist. Caroline Walters had a goal and two assists.

After the Roos' Shannon Platt stole a ball off the keeper and placed it into an open net in the 10th minute, Kretchmer squared the scoreboard away by converting a penalty kick chance in the 16th minute. It was Kretchmer's first career goal.

Mulherin's first tally gave the Pacers a 2-1 lead in the 24th minute. Walters fed a cross into the 18-yard box for Mulherin to drive into the net. The two teamed up again on an identical play four minutes later.

In the second half, Mulherin returned the favor, delivering a cross into the box for Walters to finish for her second goal of the season.

Mulherin topped off the hat trick in the final minute of play. With 50 seconds left in regulation, Josephine Sorce sent a through-ball that gifted Mulherin with a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper that she routinely finished.

Marywood outshot the Roos 32-3 with an 18-1 advantage on target. The Pacers toppled Canton 12-0 in corner kicks.

The Pacers seek to keep the momentum going on Wednesday when they host Lancaster Bible College at 7 p.m.
