Johnson Guides Pacers to Win over Cabrini

Johnson went 11 of 14 from the field for 17 points

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University won its second consecutive Atlantic East Conference men's basketball game with a 78-63 win over Cabrini University on Saturday. The Pacers led for the last 22 minutes of the contest. 

Cole Johnson scored a career-high 27 points in the winning effort. Off the bench, Johnson went 11 of 14 from the field. He made 4 of 5 shots from long range. 

Brendan Franko was the only other Pacer in double figures with 17 points. He has scored more than 10 points in the past four games. He also contributed with seven boards

Shilo Bivins led the Pacers off the glass with eight rebounds. 

Cabrini (5-11, 2-2 AEC) had four players reach double figures. Donoven Mack tallied 13 points. Eric Neal and Isaac Brady totaled 12 points. Jayden Blakey had 10 points. 

Marywood (7-8, 2-1 AEC) have won three straight against the Cavaliers. They have a 7-3 record against Cabrini in the past 10 meetings. 

The Pacers dominated the rebound game by a 37-21 margin. The Cavaliers committed 11 turnovers to the Pacers' 13, and they had a 21-12 edge in points off turnovers. 

Cabrini took a lead with 2:49 remaining in the first half when Mack made a layup from Jaden Dickerson. Collin Himmelberg evened the score at 25-25. Austin Bausman gave Marywood the lead for the final lead change of the game with a layup at the 1:53 mark of the first half.

Marywood ended the first half with a nine-point run. Johnson made a 3-pointer at the top of the key, and Franko made a layup in the final five seconds to head into the break with a 32-25 lead.  

The scoring run extended to 12 in the second half on a Franko jumper and a Bausman free throw. 

Marywood heads to Neumann University on Wednesday.
