Pacers Slip to Knights in Second Half

Aston, Pa. — Marywood University was unable to hold to an eight-point halftime lead in a 73-69 advantage Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference men's basketball action. The Knights outscored the Pacers by 46-34 margin in the second half. 

Brendan Franko finished a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. He made 7 of 14 from the field. 

Shilo Bivins tallied 14 points. Mason Mendygral scored 12 points, and Cole Johnson had 11 points for his third straight game in double figures. 

Neumann was led by Jalen Vaughns' 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jarell Keel also had double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. TJ Lewis finished with 11 points, and Bernard Lightsey scored 15 points. 

Neumann shot 51.7 percent from the field, including a 65.52 percent mark in the second half. The Knights edged the Pacers 35-30 in rebounds. 

Trevor Seitz made a 3-pointer with 91 seconds to provide Marywood with a 35-21 lead. Neumann closed the gap to eight points at halftime with a six-point run capped by Keel's jumper at the buzzer. 

That streak stretched to a 12-point run in the start of the second half. Bivins stopped the run with a pair of free throws; however, Neumann took its first lead on a Vaughns' layup that gave them a 41-40 advantage with 15:04 left to play. 

The Knights' lead increased to 10 points, but the Pacers made it a one possession came on a Brendan Franko 3-pointer via Mendygral with 1:59 remaining in regulation. Keel made a jump shot at 1:34 to extend the Knights' lead to four points. Both teams went scoreless for nearly a minute until Amari Little made both ends of a free-throw chance to take a 72-66 lead. 

Seitz sank a 3-pointer to cut it to one possession (72-69) again with 30 seconds left. Kyle Thompson made one free throw for a 73-69 lead. Marywood missed a 3-pointer and turned the ball over in its final possessions. 

Marywood will host Centenary University in a doubleheader on Saturday.
