Wilson Scores Equalizer in Final Minute

Niko Leibkuchler makes six saves to capture win

Scranton, Pa. — Jayce Wilson scored an equalizer in the 90th minute to lead Marywood University to a 2-2 draw against Centenary University Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference men's soccer action. The Pacers stand in fifth place in the Atlantic East standings with a 4-6-3 overall, 0-1-1 conference record.

Jack Forbes tallied a career-high two assists.

Playing a man-up after a 90th minute red card, Marywood scored its equalizer on a set piece. Alex Visha delivered a ball into the box that was headed out by a Centenary defender. Forbes sent a low thru-ball into a gap, setting up Wilson's strike from 10 yards away.

Marywood nearly scored a go-ahead goal seconds later when Owen Clearwaters' shot dinged off the woodwork.

Ryan Surowiec tallied his first career goal in the 39th minute. A turnover just outside the 18-yard box caused a breakaway chance for Forbes. Coming from the left side, Forbes passed to his right side, allowing a wide-open Surowiec to boot it into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Centenary scored twice in the second half to take the lead. In the 61st minute, Kevin Lopez connected on a set piece chance from 30 yards out into the top right frame. Jordan Cuero gave the Cyclones a 2-1 lead in the 74th minute, winning a ball at the 15-yard line and side-stepping his way for a go-ahead goal.

Niko Leibkuchler had a standout performance, keeping away six shots out of the net. His counterpart Kevin Velasquez Mejia also made six saves.

Both teams finished with eight shots on goal with Marywood leading 21-18 in total shots. The Cyclones had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Marywood travels to Virginia to take on Marymount University on Saturday.
