Volleyball Dashes Mighty Macs to Open Atlantic East Slate

Hagerstrom scores 12.5 points on eight kills, four aces

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University opened its Atlantic East Conference women's volleyball schedule with a 3-0 win over Immaculata University Wednesday in the Insalaco Arena. The Pacers stand alone with Marymount University as the two undefeated teams in conference play. 

Marywood won by sets of 25-18, 25-18, 25-21. 

It is the Pacers' eighth consecutive win over the Mighty Macs. 

Casey Hagerstrom led the Pacers with 12 1/2 points. She finished with eight kills and just one error for a .412 attack percentage. She added four aces and a block assist. 

Marywood had a season-high 14 aces for the match. Emilie Agnoli matched Hagerstrom with four aces, and Jaedyn Laws contributed three aces. 

Defensively, Peyton Fischer contributed 12 digs. Laws added 11 digs with 14 assists for a double-double.

Libby Zick had nine assists. 

Bethany Burns matched Hagerstom's match-high eight kills. She went errorless on 10 attempts for an .800 hitting mark. Libby Smith had seven kills and a .313 hitting mark. 

Immaculata was led by Emma Hodgson and Mia Esposito's six kills. Hodgson had five total blocks. 

In the first set, Marywood led 14-12 before undertaking a six-point run on Laws serves to take a 20-12 lead. Immaculata roared back with five of six points. The Pacers were propelled to victory with a Laws kill and back-to-back Hagerstrom aces. 

Marywood overtook the Macs in the second set. Trailing 6-5, Leah Zambetti tied the game with a kill and Burns put Marywood ahead with a kill. Immaculata crawled back on Calissa Araujo serves to make it a 22-18 match. Payton Mosteller turned around the momentum with a kill from Zick.

The final set was tight as the Macs moved within 22-20 on a Mel Mann kill. Following a service error, Agnoli produced a service ace. Burns secured match point on a kill from Zick. 

Marywood shot .218 for the match, compared to the Macs' .134 percentage. The Pacers had a 53-40 edge in points. They doubled the Macs 14-7 in aces and went ahead 40-30 in digs. Immaculata led 8-3 in blocks. 

The Pacers look to continue their momentum Saturday in a tri-match at Neumann University. The Pacers will take on the Knights and John Jay College.
