Pacers Win in Overtime Victory Over Immaculata, 2-1

Tomada connected with Jones twice in the win

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University junior Dariane Jones scored a double overtime game-winning goal to defeat Immaculata University. Jones' goal gave the Pacers a 2-1 win over the Mighty Macs to secure first place in Atlantic East Conference field hockey standings.

The Pacers grabbed the win and improve to 10-5 overall, and 2-0 in conference play. 

Jones finished with both Marywood goals. Maria Tomada had a pair of assists.

The squads battled through the first half, as the match remained scoreless after the first 30 minutes. 

It was the 40th minute of play when the tie was broken. The Pacers grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal from Dariane Jones, assisted by Maria Tomada

The Mighty Macs answered when they were awarded a penalty stroke and capitalized in the 50th minute, sending the game to overtime after a scoreless remainder of the fourth period. 

In thrilling fashion, the Pacers would be victorious in the affair, as Jones beat the goalie and buried the ball in the cage to win it, scoring her second of the day along the way. Tomada picked up the assist, her second of the game. 

Marywood was able to get off 30 total shots, 19 of which were on goal. 

Jones (9), Tomada (8), and Cydney Lahr (8) combined for 25 of the Pacers' shots. 

Sabrina Frazer recorded a save in the cage for the Pacers. 

Julia Levase collected 17 saves on the day for the Mighty Macs. 

Immaculata recorded four total shots with two on target.  

Marywood also had 31 penalty corners, in comparison to four for Immaculata. 

The Pacers will look to carry this momentum into Wednesday, as they travel to take on Manhattanville.
