Field Hockey Slashes Valiants in 9-0 Victory

Six different Pacers scored in the win

Purchase, N.Y. — Marywood University secured the top seed in the Atlantic East Conference field hockey playoffs with a 9-0 victory over Manhattanville University on Wednesday. The Pacers are assured a home game throughout the conference playoffs. 

With two goals, Cydney Lahr moved into second place all-time in career goals, tying Annemarie Tichy '99 with 48 career goals. She also had an assist.

Dariane Jones matched her with two goals and an assist. Jones moved into fourth all-time in career assists with 20.

Maria Tomada scored two goals. Lany Straub added a goal and an assist. Corrin Hasty scored once. 

Brooke Barwick had her first career goal. 

Marywood (11-5, 3-0 AEC) wasted no time, getting on the board first just 14 seconds after the opening whistle. Tomada was able to tap in a pass from Lahr to go up 1-0. 

Lahr got one of her own in the third minute of the match, as Jones was credited with the assist to make it 2-0. 

Jones then tallied two goals as well in the fifth and eighth minutes of play, both unassisted. 

At the end of the 18th minute, Tomada scored her second goal of the game on a penalty stroke, putting the Pacers up 5-0. 

After the half, Marywood kept the scoring going. In the 33rd minute, Lahr notched another score, assisted by Straub. 

Straub then collected a goal of her own in the 36th minute to extend the lead to 7-0. 

The eighth Marywood goal came off the stick of Barwick, her first on the season as well as in her collegiate career. 

Hasty recorded a goal in the 52nd minute to grow the margin to 9-0, where it would finish. 

The Pacers recorded 43 total shots on the day, 34 being on target. 

Marywood also led the corner battle 20-2. 

Lianna Horner, Sabrina Frazer, Jenny Keagy, and Zoey Hall played a quarter a piece and recorded two saves as a collective whole for the Pacers. 

Marywood will host Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday for the final regular season conference match.
