Pacers Roll Through Atlantic Season Undefeated with Senior Day Win

Dariane Jones scores two goals and an assist

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University wrapped up its Atlantic East Conference field hockey schedule with a perfect record following a 4-2 win over Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday. The Pacers will be the top seed in the Atlantic East playoffs.

Marywood honored seniors Cydney Lahr, Zoey Hall, Cassie Slusser, Lany Straub, Belle Coleman, Aliyah Heintzelman, Liv Rosengrant, Corrin Hasty, Emma Wagner and Brie Sumner prior to the game. 

Dariane Jones finished with two goals and an assist. Jones moved into sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the career assists leaderboard at Marywood. 

Maria Tomada and Cydney Lahr each scored a goal. Cassie Slusser and Lany Straub each added an assist. 

Zoey Hall made one save to earn the win. Sabrina Frazer had two saves. 

Marywood outshot the Griffins by a 17-8 margin with a 9-5 advantage in shots on target. The Pacers quadrupled the Griffins 12-3 in penalty corners. 

The Pacers (12-5, 4-0 AEC) took an early lead in the fifth minute when Maria Tomada rocketed a shot just inside of the circle. Lahr doubled the lead when she maneuvered around defenders and found an open slot in the goal in the 14th minute. 

In the second half, the Griffins' Laura Filchner scored an unassisted goal off a rebound to cut Marywood's lead to 2-1. 

Five minutes later, Jones got a deflection on a Slusser hit from the top of the arc for a 42nd minute goal. The Griffins were soon to respond with Mackenzie Reed following through on a shot in the 51st minute to make it a 3-2 lead. 

Jones provided Marywood with an insurance goal in the 53rd minute. Jones finished a Straub feed for the 4-2 lead. 

Marywood will travel to The College of New Jersey to close out its regular season on Wednesday. 

The Pacers will host the No. 4 seed on Saturday. The third and fourth seeds are yet to be determined until Wednesday's AEC games.
