Pacers Romp Griffins to Remain Undefeated in October

Marywood records second-most single-game shots in school history

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. — Marywood University produced the second-most single-game shots in school history in a 5-0 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference women's soccer. The Pacers (11-3-2, 3-0-1 AEC) remain in first place with a one-goal edge in conference goal differential. 

Marywood registered 58 shots against the Griffins. It is the Pacers' most goals since putting up 62 in a win over Cedar Crest College in 2010. 

Josephine Sorce scored two goals and an assist for the Pacers. Maura Kirkpatrick netted three assists. Faith Meals had two assists. 

Both Carly and Caroline Walters had goals. Riley Mulherin added a goal. 

Marywood's defensive consecutive scoreless minutes streak grew to second all-time at 581 minutes, 39 seconds. The Pacers are precisely 29 minutes shy of breaking a 2021 school history. 

Both Jenna Orr and Genevieve Morrison combined for a clean sheet. The Pacers' 12th shutout of the season is the second-most in school history, behind the 2010 season's 15 clean sheets. 

Marywood went ahead in the 10th minute. Sorce intercepted a goal kick with her chest. Kirkpatrick sent a ball forward to Mulherin for her eighth goal of the season. 

Carly Walters engineered a goal off a Sorce corner in the 31st minute. Walters backtracked a clipped a shot from 18 yards out to take a 2-0 lead. 

Caroline Walters turned on a Kirkpatrick ball and ripped a shot from 15 yards away for a goal in the 49th minute. 

Marywood scored on a double-assisted play in the 53th minute. Meals delivered a midfield sideline ball to Kirkpatrick in the center of the field. Kirkpatrick struck a throughball for Sorce to run into the box and strike a one-timer from 10 yards out. 

Meals sent a perfect serve into the center of the net for Sorce to hammer into the net to cap the Pacers' scoring in the 71st minute. 

The Pacers outshot the Griffins by a 58-2 margin, including a 27-1 advantage in shots on target. Marywood had a 6-0 advantage in corners. 

The Griffins (5-9-2, 1-4 Atlantic East) received 22 saves from Madisson Ronn. 

Marywood looks to break its scoreless record Saturday against Pratt Institute at 3 p.m.
