Second Half Surge Swallows Pratt in Second Half

Marywood clinches Atlantic East playoff spot

Brooklyn, N.Y. — Marywood University scored four second-half goals to defeat Pratt Institute 4-0 Saturday in a crucial Atlantic East Conference men's soccer matchup. The Pacers (6-7-3, 2-2-1 AEC) secure a berth to the Atlantic East playoffs.

Danny Gomez scored two goals and an assist in a dominant performance for the Pacers.

Marywood piled on all four goals in just over a 20-minute span. Three of the Pacers goals came within 4:35.

Gomez broke the scoreless draw with an unassisted goal in the 65th minute. On a penalty kick chance, Gomez's initial chance was saved by Pratt's Carter Tillman, and Gomez followed through on the rebound.

In the 81st minute, Nolan Kozera scored on a Drew Smith-assisted play for a 2-0 lead. Marywood added a third goal in the 83rd minute when Gomez assisted Owen Clearwaters' first goal of the season.

Gomez finished with an unassisted tally in the 85th minute.

Niko Leibkuchler captured a clean sheet.

Pratt was eliminated from postseason contention. Carter Tillman made seven saves.

The Pacers outshot the Cannoneers 21-2 with an 11-0 advantage in shots on target. Marywood had a 10-1 tilt in corner kicks.

Marywood travels to Immaculata University on Wednesday. A win over the Mighty Macs would give the Pacers a first-round bye with the No. 3 seed.
