Marywood Notches No. 4 Seed Following Loss to Macs

Danny Gomez scores fourth goal in three games

Immaculata, Pa. — Marywood University earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic East Conference men's soccer playoffs following a 2-1 regular season finale loss to Immaculata University. The Pacers captured a home game in the Atlantic East first round following Gwynedd Mercy's draw with Centenary University. 

Marywood (6-8-3, 2-3-1 AEC) will host fifth-seeded Centenary on Saturday at 3 p.m. The two teams tied 1-1 during the regular season. 

With the win, Immaculata (7-8-1, 4-2-0 AEC) earns a first-round bye with the No. 3 seed. 

Danny Gomez scored for the fourth time in the past three contests. 

Reed Lindsay gave the Mighty Macs an early lead in the 12th minute. Lindsay scored from the left flank on a double-assisted play from Michael Balestriere and Alex Corsones. 

Gomez contributed the equalizer in the 37th minute. On a set piece, Alex Visha hit a set piece that found Gomez's head in the middle of the box to even the score. 

The Mighty Macs scored the game-winner four minutes later. Matthew Kirkpatrick hit a cross that went long. Lindsay headed the ball back into play for Collin Hassay to drive in his first of the season. 

Marywood edged the Mighty Macs 15-13 in total shots, and both teams had five shots on goal. The Macs enjoyed a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. 

Niko Leibkuchler finished with three saves for the Pacers. His counterpart Ryan Straub made four saves.
