CHAMPS! | Marywood Claims Third Atlantic East Women's Soccer Title

Maura Kirkpatrick named Tournament MVP

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University won its third Atlantic East Conference women's soccer championship and fifth overall conference title with a 2-0 victory over Marymount University on Saturday. The Pacers earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament next weekend. 

WSOC MVPMaura Kirkpatrick (pictured in middle left flanked by Marywood president Lisa Lori, J.D. and Head Coach Richard Owens) was selected the Atlantic East Tournament Most Valuable Player Award. Kirkpatrick tallied a goal and an assist in the win over the Saints. She also had an assist in the Pacers' semifinal win over Immaculata. 

Marywood tied a school record with its 15th victory of the season. The Pacers set a program record with their 16th shutout of the season. Marywood extended its defensive scoreless minutes streak to a record 941 minutes, 39 seconds. 

The Pacers await the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament Selection Show on Monday. 

Marywood took a lead in the 20th minute. Riley Mulherin delivered a ball from the right side line. Kirkpatrick hit a right-footede shot into the top right corner fo the net for the early lead. 

The Pacers (15-3-2) doubled their lead in the 57th minute. Kirkpatrick served a ball from the right perimeter. Caroline Walters' right-footed shot found the top right-hand corner. 

Marywood nearly added to its lead in the 62nd minute. Rylee Alston one-timed a Mulherin cross that just lifted on top of the goal. In the 76th minute, Faith Meals cross dingers off the right corner woodwork. 

The Pacers' shutout was preserved in the 83rd minute. Marissa Tonic hit a shot that caromed off the top frame. Jenna Orr made a last-minute save to help keep Marywood's shutout streak alive. 

Marywood previously won Atlantic East titles in 2018 and 2022. The Pacers claimed Colonial States Athletic Conference championships in 2008 and 2016.
