Scranton, Pa. -- Marywood University came short in a 59-49 defensive battle with Neumann University Saturday in Atlantic East Conference women's basketball action. The Pacers were outscored 22-10 in the fourth quarter.
Mia Blume scored a team-high 11 points against her former team.
Faith Kendricks flirted with a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
Neumann's Lauren Klieber tallied 14 points. Emily DuPont finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Marywood found itself in early trouble as the Knights opened with an 11-2 lead. The Pacers ended the first quarter just trailing by one (14-13) after Kendricks stole a ball and made a 3-pointer at the other end.
The Pacers kept Neumann to without a field goal for a 7-minute stretch, reclaiming the lead on a
Kendel Card jumper. Again, the Pacers closed the quarter trailing by one when Blume made a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Marywood took its largest lead in the third quarter. A seven-point run resulted in a Klemick jumper from Kendricks at the top of the key for a 35-31 lead at the 4:03 mark.
The Pacers' lead heading into the fourth quarter was short-lived. Neumann's Kleiber made a 3-pointer to start the stanza and retake the lead. The deficit stood until Blume made a long-ranged shot at 6:27 to take a 43-42 advantage. DuPont made a basket for the Knights, and
Shelby Ardo-Boyko drove the lane for a layup and a 45-44 lead.
Neumann used a pair of DuPont free throws that started a six-point run that became too much to erase. Over a six-minute window, the Knights scored on seven consecutive possessions.
Both contests against the Knights were the second and third lowest combined scoring contests of the season.
Marywood (8-14, 2-7 AEC) concludes its regular season Tuesday at home against Gwynedd Mercy University.
