Pacers Slowed Down by Colonels, 11-8

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University was set back in a 11-8 decision to Wilkes University Wednesday in men's lacrosse action. It was the Colonels' first win over the Pacers in series history. 

Jake Plokhoy finished with a hat trick. Aiden Kilkenny finished with a goal and an assist. Both Dillon Kane and Nick Ericson each finished with two goals apiece. 

Collin Trainor made 14 saves. 

Nick Ericson won 18 of 23 faceoff chances for a 78.2 percent clip. He picked up 14 ground balls. 

Defensively, Dalton Gerver had four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Nick Baker caused two turnovers and collected six ground balls. Zach Pramik and Lucas Wilson each added five ground balls. 

The Colonels' Colby Opromolla and Tim Hartka each had four-point performances. Brendan Keegan caused five turnovers. 

Wilkes (1-1) went ahead early with two goals in the opening 1:12. Aiden Kilkenny got the Pacers on the scoreboard for the first time with a man-down unassisted goal. 

Following a Wilkes man-up goal, Nick Ericson scored five seconds later and added another to start the second quarter, evening the score at 3-3. The Colonels collected three straight goals to take a 6-3 lead. 

Plokhoy scored the lone goal of the third quarter on an unassisted tally to move within two (7-5). 

Wilkes' Opromolla opened the fourth with a man-up goal at the 13:36 mark. The closest the Pacers would get was a Plokhoy man-up goal from Kilkenny less than two minutes later. 

The Colonels benefited from a team goal that ignited a three-goal run to put the game out of reach. 

Marywood looks to get into the win column Saturday at Mount St. Mary College in New York.
