Ericson Scores Game-Winner over Knights

Pacers play lowest combined scoring contest in program history

Newburgh, N.Y. — Senior midfielder Nick Ericson scored the game-winning goal to give Marywood University its first men's lacrosse victory of the season. The Pacers upended Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) 4-3 on Saturday in its first road competition.

Ericson broke open the 3-3 tie with an unassisted goal with 3:28 remaining.

Ericson won the ensuing faceoff with a Zach Pramik ground ball. After a Kenny Leen save, Mount St. Mary regained possession. Nick Baker forced a turnover and picked up a loose ball. The Pacers held on to possession the rest of the way.

The Pacers came back from a brief 3-2 deficit in the fourth quarter. After Marywood put two in the net in the opening stanza, Mount St. Mary scored three consecutive goals over the next half-hour of competition.

The Knights' Hayden Mitchell gave his team a 3-2 advantage from a Larry Frank assist with 13:50 remaining in the game. Pramik picked up a ground ball on Ericson's faceoff, and a Mount St. Mary penalty presented the Pacers with a man-up opportunity.

Just 72 seconds after the Knights took the lead for the first time, Jake Plokhoy evened the score on a Dillon Kane assist.

Aiden Kilkenny led the Pacers with two goals. Plokhoy finished with a goal and an assist.

The Pacers (1-2) and Knights (0-2) played in the lowest combined scoring game in program history. It beat a nine-goal game against Scranton in the blinding snow in 2015 and last season's Atlantic East first round matchup against Immaculata.

In addition to his game-winning goal, Ericson won all 11 faceoff chances.

Baker led the Pacers defensively with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Zach Pramik finished with eight ground balls and two caused turnovers. Dalton Gerver had two caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Gavin Ammlung made one save to secure the win in his collegiate debut. The Knights' Kenny Leen made 12 saves with seven ground balls.

Marywood takes on King's College Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
