Pacers Hang On to Even Men's Basketball Record

Brendan Franko, Mason Mendygral finish with 21 points

Hackettstown, N.J. -- Marywood University evened its overall record with an 88-78 victory over Centenary University Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference men's basketball competition. The Pacers held on in a one-possession game in the final minutes.

Brendan Franko and Mason Mendygral both finished with a game-high 21 points. Franko went 7 for 14 from the field, and Mendygral made all 10 free throws.

Trevor Seitz tallied 17 points with three steals. Austin Bausman had seven rebounds.

Centenary was led by Shawn Falk's 18 points and seven rebounds. Trevor Giordano totaled 13 points, and Naire Preston had a team-high 19 points. Kenneth Rankin was a rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points.

After being up by as many as 19 points, Marywood's lead was cut down to one possession over a 10-minute span. Following a technical foul, the Cyclones made both ends of Falk free throws and then a Tyler Clark layup to cut the deficit to 70-67 with 5:47 remaining.

Seitz made a free throw, stole the ball at the other end, and dished out an assist to Mendygral for a 73-67 advantage. Colin Gery put in a layup at 4:09. Mendygral made four consecutive free throws to stretch the lead to seven points.

A Preston jumper was erased by a Robert Van Brunt 3-pointer that increased Marywood's lead to 80-72 with 2:23. Aided by a Mendygral layup on the next possession, the Pacers made four straight free throws.

Centenary committed eight turnovers to the Pacers' 15, and it had a 24-6 advantage in points off turnovers. The Cyclones had a 60-34 margin in points in the paint.

Both teams shot just a hair above 48 percent from the field. The Pacers held Centenary to a 1 for 14 night (7.1 percent) from beyond the arc.
