Marywood Opens Up the 2024 Season with a Sweep

Leesburg, Fla. - The Marywood University Softball team kicked off the 2024 season in sunshine state. The Pacers swept on opening day winning in extra innings in game one. Marywood beat Earlham College 2-1 (eight innings) and defeated Lasell College 5-4. 

Game One: The Pacers won their first game of the season in a thrilling extra innings match up versus Earlham College.  

Tori Para had a big day at the plate collecting two hits and two RBI. 

The Pacers trailed early when in the second inning the Quakers scored an unearned run on a throwing error. 

Marywood tied it up in the sixth when Para hit a single up the middle scoring Kat Davis.

Heading into extra innings, in the top of the eighth, Abbey Stalter started at second. After two quick outs, Para laced a double into deep center field plating Stalter. 

Gregory was able to shut down the Quakers in the bottom of the eighth.

Marissa Gregory (1-0) got the win for the Pacers with eight innings pitched, striking out 15, and allowing one run, no earned runs, three hits and four walks.  

Morgan Cooksey took the loss for the Quakers pitching eight innings, tallying 13 strikeouts, and allowing two runs, one earned, four hits and three walks. 

Game Two: Marywood jumped out early and defeated the Lasell College Lasers, 6-5. 

Priscilla Grill went two for three, scoring two runs, and recorded two RBI. 

In the first, Emma Kim reached on an error which scored Grill. 

The Pacers rallied in the second inning when Kat Davis hit an RBI single. Then, Grill singled up the middle collecting two RBI.  Tori Para joined in on the hit parade with a single up the middle plating the fifth run of the game. 

The Lasers were silent until the sixth inning. A leadoff single, followed by a double sparked a three run rally to make it a one run game. 

Sam Ferrara (1-0) got the win for Marywood pitching four innings allowing five hits, one run, and one walk. She struck out one. 

Meghan Theall (0-1) recorded the loss, she pitched two innings allowing five hits, five runs, four earned runs, and one walk. 

Marissa Gregory got the save for the Pacers. 

Marywood will have two more games Tuesday against Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) and Roger Williams.
