Softball Sweeps in the Sunshine State

Pacers roll to a 4-0 start

Leesburg, Fla. – The Marywood University softball team remained undefeated in the Sunshine State with a sweep on Tuesday. Marywood beat Mount Saint College (N.Y.)  3-2 and defeated Roger Williams 5-1. 

Game One: Marywood 3, Mount St. Mary 2  

Marley Sarafinko led the charge for Marywood, reaching in all three at-bats with two RBIs.

The Pacers got on the board early when Emma McNally hit a flare behind the pitcher's circle, plating Sarafinko. 

In the bottom of the second inning, Jessica Hanley singled to left field and Alex Dusman walked. Abbey Stalter laid down a bunt advancing the runners. Then, Sarafinko singled into right field, making it a 3-0 game. 

The Knights scored in the bottom of the third when Laura Dentato reached third on an error and Samantha Bendig doubled. 

Mount Saint Mary would go on and score again in the fourth. Kristen Tellier singled up the middle and plated Chloe Graham. 

Sam Ferrara got the win for the Pacers improving to 2-0 on the year. She threw 4 ⅓ innings, surrendering five hits, two walks, and one earned run. Ferrara struck out four. 

Bridget Morris took the loss for the Saints. She allowed five hits, three earned runs, and five walks. She struck out nine. 

Marissa Gregory got her second save on the year, pitching one inning and striking out one. 

Game Two: Marywood 5, Roger Williams 1

A fifth inning rally propelled the Pacers to victory against the Hawks. Lauryn Notari led off with a single. Priscilla Grill had a pinch hit opportunity which resulted in a hit by pitch. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third. Kat Davis then reached on a fielder's choice recording an RBI. 

After a hit by pitch and walk, McNally singled to right field driving in a run. 

With bases loaded, both Jessie Kmak and Jess Hanley walked, tallying an RBI a piece making it a 5-0 game. 

The Hawks scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI single to center field. 

Marissa Gregory got the win to improve to 2-0. She pitched 7 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run. She struck out four and surrendered one walk. 

Raegen Germano took the loss for Roger Williams pitching 4 ⅓ innings allowing two hits, four earned runs, two walks, and two hit by pitches. She struck out five. 

The Pacers will resume action on Thursday with games against University of Wisconsin-Stout and Mitchell College.
