Pacers Take Two From Western Connecticut State

Marywood improves to 3-3

Ft. Pierce, Fla. – The Marywood University Pacers continued their spring trip on Tuesday, as they swept Western Connecticut State University with scores of 5-4 and 9-5. 

Game 1: Marywood 5, Western Connecticut State 4

Marywood opened up the scoring in the third inning, putting up for runs in the bottom half. Christian Michak put the Pacers on the board with an RBI single that plated Danny Tiedmann. Adam Ginsberg followed that up with a single of his own, scoring Michak. Ginsberg would go on to score on a Max Slusser base knock. The Pacers scored their fourth run to go up 4-0 thanks to an RBI from AJ Kuzior on a fielder's choice that allowed Vinny D'Auria to cross the plate. 

The Wolves got two runs back in the top half of the fifth thanks to an RBI double from Jayson Hannah, followed by an RBI single off the bat of Jesse Dunn. 

The Pacers responded in the bottom of the fifth with another run, scored by Michak on a passed ball, extending the lead 5-2. 

Western Connecticut State grabbed two more runs in the top of the sixth to get within one. The first run crossed on an RBI single from Thomas Keough, and the other was scored as Ryan Vallie groundout to second base. 

Marywood was able to hold on for a 5-4 win, totaling five hits in the game. 

Ginsberg led the Pacers with two hits (2-4), one for extra bases, and an RBI. 

Max Ryan gets the win for Marywood, hurling five innings and giving up two earned runs. Ryan walked two and struck out three. 

AJ Jordan picked up the save. 

Game 2: Marywood 9, Western Connecticut State 5

The Pacers wasted no time at all in game two scoring in the top of the first, picking up right where they left off. The run came off the bat of D'Auria who hit a sac fly to plate Michak. 

Marywood extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second on a two RBI single by Michak which plated both Joel Ayers and Joey Galantini

The Wolves would respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the second as Anthony Piazza doubled and then scored on an RBI single from Luke Dawson, making it 3-1.

The Pacers grabbed that run right back however, as Ayers doubled to bring in Slusser in the top of the third. 

Nicholas Moeller brought Western Connecticut State back within two again with a sacrifice fly to score Robert Garcia in the bottom half of the third. 

Marywood poured it on in the top half of the fourth inning as they had four runners cross the plate to extend their lead to 8-2. The first came on an RBI single from D'Auria that scored Michak. The next three runs came off the bat of Tristan Gatchalain who's three RBI double brought home Slusser, D'Auria, and Ginsberg. 

The Pacers added another run in the top of the fifth to make it 9-2. Michak was plated on a single by D'Auria, who picked up his third RBI in the game. 

The Wolves put a late rally together in the bottom half of the seventh inning, as Moeller doubled to bring in Peter Coniglio, Anthony Cusimano, and Luke Dawson. 

The Pacers would hold on to win 9-5, securing their second victory of the day. 

Marywood collected ten hits in the affair, with Michak lead the way. D'Auria and Gatchalain recorded three RBIs a piece, while Michak tallied two of his own.

Reilly Owen carried the Pacers pitching staff, earning the win. Owen threw five innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out two and walking one. \

Marywood, now 3-3 on the season, will continue play on Thursday as they take on Thiel College.
