Pacers Shoo Tomcats for Doubleheader Sweep

Jordan records his third save of the season

Ft. Pierce, Fla. - After an off day, Marywood baseball continued its spring trip with a doubleheader sweep over Thiel College. The Pacers ousted the Tomcats by scores of 6-5 and 6-3. With the victories, Marywood improves to 5-3 overall.

Game 1: Marywood 6, Thiel 5

After a scoreless first inning, the Tomcats opened up the scoring with a two RBI double in the bottom of the second, off the bat of Joey Schimizzi.

Thiel extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third, as Nathan Prunty doubled to left center field, driving in a run.

The bottom of the fourth was a huge inning for the Pacers, as they put up a six spot in the frame. The Marywood scoring began with back to back walks of AJ Giannetti and Cameron Kohut, bringing in a run a piece.

Christian Michak then delivered a bases clearing triple, bringing in Kohut, Giannetti, and Tristan Gatchalain. This knock helped the Pacers jump out to a 5-2 lead. Michak later scored on a wild pitch, lengthening the lead to 6-3.

The Tomcats were able to get a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fifth. The first was scored by an RBI single from Nick Jacobs, and the second crossed as Cole Sherwin hit into a double play.

The Pacers would go on to hold the Tomcats off for the remainder of the game, securing the 6-5 win.

Aidan Dolan picked up the win for the Pacers, giving up one hit over a scoreless fourth frame.

The save was credited to AJ Jordan, his third of the young season. Through just eight games this season, Jordan moves into a tie for second all-time at Marywood in single-season saves.

Vinny D'Auria collected two hits, and Michak drove in three to lead Marywood offensively.

Game 2: Marywood 6, Thiel College 3

In game two, the Pacers got on the board first in the bottom of the second with a Michak RBI single that plated Joe Yannelli

The Tomcats were quick to answer with a run of their own. In the top of the third, Aidan Ochs singled to knot the score up at 1-1.

The top half of the fifth saw two more Thiel runs cross the plate. Nick Jacobs doubled down the line and Ochs delivered a sacrifice fly to center. The runs put the Tomcats ahead by a score of 3-1.

Marywood wasted no time getting back in the game, and eventually re-taking the lead, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the fifth. The scoring began as Michak advanced to third before eventually scoring on a throwing error, after a fly out by D'Auria. Max Slusser followed that up with a home run to left, driving in Ginsberg to put the Pacers up 4-3. Two insurance runs were acquired when both Yannelli and Joel Ayers scored on an error that also allowed Tristan Gatchalain to reach base after pinch hitting.

Marywood would close the door on Thiel, holding the 6-3 lead through the sixth and seventh.

Danny Tiedemann started for the Pacers, going three innings. Tiedemann gave up four hits, one walk, and one run while striking out one.

Brett Kugler picked up the win in his one inning of work, while Joseph Bruno secured his first save of the season.

Marywood had only three hits on the day belonging to Michak, D'Auria, and Max Slusser

The Pacers look to secure two more victories Friday. Marywood plays a doubleheader against Franciscan (Ohio) to wrap up its spring trip.
