Ft. Pierce, Fla. -- Marywood University combined to scored seven first-inning runs to sweep Franciscan University Friday to conclude the baseball Spring Break trip. The Pacers defeated the Barons by scores of 10-5 and 9-3.
Marywood (7-3) stretches its winning streak to six games for the first time since the 2022 season. The Pacers went 6-2 in Florida.
Game 1: Marywood 10, Franciscan 5
Vinny D'auria helped propel the Pacers to a 10-5 victory in the first of two games against the Barons, going 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Marywood wasted no time grabbing the early lead in the bottom of the first inning, as
Adam Ginsberg singled to center field, bringing in
Christian Michak.
AJ Kuzior followed that up with a sac fly, as
Adam Ginsberg tagged up from third.
The Pacer lead stretched to 3-0, thanks to
AJ Giannetti driving in D'Auria on a single to center field.
Marywood added to the lead in the bottom of the third, with Ginsberg scoring on an RBI single off the bat of D'Auria. After Kuzior singled to center, moving D'Auria to third,
AJ Giannetti homered the left field wall, bolstering the lead to 7-0.
Franciscan scratched across their first run of the game with an RBI double to left off the bat of Dylan Robb in the top half of the fourth.
The Pacers quickly grabbed that run back in the bottom of the inning.
Cameron Kohut drove in Giannetti with a single to center field.
The fifth inning saw four Barons cross the plate. The first run came as Benedict Urbanczyk scored on an RBI single from Peter Falconite. Wade Stoehr followed that up with another RBI single, bringing in Devon Ashcraft.
The last of the Franciscan runs were scored on a Holden Armstrong single, knocking across Peter Falconite and Anthony Franzonello, bringing the Barons within three, 8-5.
The Pacers gathered two insurance runs in the bottom half of the fifth, as
Nick Ruiz scored on a wild pitch and Michak came across on a sac fly off the bat of Ginsberg.
Nick Notari was credited the win for Marywood, his first of the young season. Notari went four innings deep, allowing four hits, one run, and one walk while striking out three.
Game 2: Marywood 9, Franciscan 3
The Pacers started off when
Max Slusser hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Michak.
Tristan Gatchalain then singled, scoring D'Auria.
Joel Ayers joined in the hitting fest, lacing a double to left field bringing in Gatchalain.
Joseph Bruno recorded a hit and RBI as well making it 4-0.
In the second inning,
Connor Rasimovich scored on a wild throw from the catcher.
Rasimovich in third slugged a triple to right field. Michak brought him in with an RBI single giving the Pacers a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Franciscan was able to plate a run across on a single up the middle.
The Pacers responded in the top of the fifth with a triple, two doubles, and a fielder's choice to make it 9-1.
Franciscan was able to rally in the bottom of the seventh when the leadoff man doubled, followed by a walk, then a single left the bases loaded. A sacrifice fly and a single followed to make it a 9-3 game.
Michael Aronica got the win for the Pacers, pitching four innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs. He struck out five.
Danny Becker and
Danny Cossa both came in relief allowing no runs. Cossa recorded a strikeout.
Andrew Heidemann took the loss for the Barons, surrendering 10 hits, eight earned runs, and three walks. He struck out two.
The Pacers will have their home opener on Tuesday.
