Pacers Defend Home Turf with a Sweep Over Clarks Summit

Para powers game two with a double and two triples

Scranton, Pa. - The Marywood University softball team came out victorious in both games of a non-conference doubleheader play against the Defenders of Clarks Summit University. The Pacers improve to 8-4 (1-1 AEC) overall. 

Game 1: Marywood 9, Clarks Summit 0

Tori Para and Abbey Stalter each recorded two hits in the contest. 

Para got things started for the Pacers with an RBI single with a comebacker to the pitcher. 

Marley Sarafinko scored on a passed ball. Then, Renee McDonald then grounded out plating Para. 

In the second, Para singled, scoring Priscilla Grill. Emma McNally followed up with an RBI single to right field. Then, Marissa Gregory hit a sacrifice fly to give the Pacers a 7-0 lead. 

Marywood in the fourth got two more runs on the board with RBI groundouts from McNally and Lianna Horner.

Gregory got the win improving to 5-2 on the season. She pitched five shutout innings giving up just four hits and a walk in the contest, striking out two. 

Kylee Miller got the loss for the Defenders allowing eight hits, six earned runs, and walking three. She struckout three. 

Game 2: Marywood 8, Clarks Summit 4

Para led the Pacers in game two going three for four with double, two triples, and two RBIs. 

The Defenders in the top of the first notched two runs on the board with an RBI single followed by a sacrifice fly. 

Marywood responded in the bottom of the first when Davis scored on a well executed first and third play. Para then roped a triple into right center, then scored herself on a wild throw that went out of play. 

The Pacers continued to swing well in the second inning. Sarafinko hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Stalter. Para stepped up and hit another RBI triple. She then scored on a passed ball making the score 6-2. 

Clarks Summit in the top of the third added another run with an RBI single. 

Sarafinko, in the bottom half, hit her second sacrifice fly of the game plating Morgan Sakulich

The Defenders scored their fourth run of the game with an inside the park homerun on a hit down the right field line. 

The Pacers went on to add another insurance run when Stalter hit a line drive up the middle, scoring Alex Dusman

Sam Ferrara got the win for the Pacers improving to 3-0. She threw her first complete game of the season pitching seven innings allowing four hits, two earned runs, and one walk. Ferrara struck out two. 

Maddison Atkins took the loss falling to 3-2 on the season. She pitched six innings allowing eight hits, four earned runs, and five walks. 

The Pacers will travel down interstate 81 on Thursday to face Wilkes University.
