Marywood Drops Doubleheader to Colonels

Edwardsville, Pa. — Marywood University was swept by Wilkes University by scores of 5-0 and 12-4 in a non-conference softball doubleheader. The Pacers have lost three in a row to the Colonels.

Game 1: Wilkes 5, Marywood 0

Wilkes scored five runs, thanks to three roundtrippers. The Colonels had a home run from H. Cross, Hayden Calaman, and Olivia Dougher.

The Colonels' Lauren DeMarco held the Pacers to just two hits in a shutout performance. DeMarco struck out 12.

Marissa Gregory took the loss. She allowed five earned runs with four strikeouts.

The Pacers' lone hits came from Marley Sarafinko and Tori Para

Wilkes (9-6) went ahead with a run in the third inning. M. Marshall led off with walk, advancing to second base on a E. Sherrick bunt. Hayden Calaman doubled to left field to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.

Dougher hit a leadoff home run in the fourth.

Game 2: Wilkes 12, Marywood 4 (5 inn.)

A seven-run fifth inning propelled Wilkes to a victory in five innings.

Marley Sarafinko finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Tori Para hit a double.

Trailing 5-1, the Pacers scored three runs in the fifth inning to move within one run. Abbey Stalter and Kat Davis hit back-to-back singles. Emma McNally moved the runners along with a fielder's choice. Sarafinko singled to left field to score Stalter. Marywood plated two more runs on a Para hit to left field that was misplayed.

Marywood heads to Morristown, N.J. on Tuesday to take on Saint Elizabeth University. Both teams split in last season's ECAC playoffs.
