Pacers Get Back to Win Column by Downing Golden Wolves

Kaitlyn Smith scores six goals and an assist

Reading, Pa. — Marywood University earned a 14-9 win over Alvernia University to close out its non-conference women's lacrosse schedule on Wednesday. The Pacers broke open a tie by outscoring the Golden Wolves 6-1 the rest of the way. 

Kaitlyn Smith finished with a team-high six goals and an assist for seven points. Smith had three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. 

Avery Meighan scored four goals. She tallied seven draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Kortney Harry tallied two goals, and Haley Abraham caused three turnovers. 

Jenna Scala made 13 saves to capture the win. 

Alvernia's Sherrin Smith posted a hat trick. Meagan Moky tabbed two goals and two assists. 

Both teams traded goals through the midway point of the third quarter. Alvernia took an 8-7 lead when Olivia McCambly scored an unassisted goal with 7:14 left. Kaitlyn Smith evened the score at 4:46.

With 87 seconds remaining, Stollsteimer tallied an unassisted woman-up goal. Kortney Harry added another woman-up goal just 26 seconds later. 

Kaitlyn Smith broke the game open with back-to-back goals within a 46-second span.

Marywood's run of six-straight goals came to a close when Sherrin Smith cut the Pacers' lead to 13-9. The Pacers held Alvernia scoreless the remaining 7:29. 

Alvernia outshot the Pacers by a 34-24 margin. The Golden Wolves edged the Pacers 18-14 in ground balls and 14-11 in draw controls.
