Extra Innings Magic Leads Pacers to First AEC Sweep in School History

Tiedemann earns first win of the season

Aston, Pa. - The Marywood baseball team produced some extra inning magic to claim a 9-6 victory over the Neumann Knights in the 11th inning. With the win, the Pacers (13-7, 3-3 AEC) earned their first sweep in Atlantic East Conference history. 

Joel Ayers hit the go-ahead double to ignite a three-run 11th inning.

In the top of the 11th, Christian Michak got aboard with a single through the left side. Ayers then doubled, scoring Michak. Adam Ginsberg followed with an RBI single adding an insurance run for the Pacers. 

The Pacers' first six batters in the lineup finished with multi-hit games. Ginsberg went 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs. Ayers batted 2 for 6 with two runs and three RBIs. Max Slusser reached four times.


Neumann scored their first run of the game on a wild pitch. 

The Knights would add two more in the third on an RBI double and sacrifice fly. In the fourth, another was scored on an error. 

Both sides were kept quiet until the seventh inning when Marywood rallied and scored six runs. 

Ayers started it off with a two RBI single to right center plating Joe Yannelli and Joey GalantiniAdam Ginsberg followed this up with a RBI single to left field. AJ Giannetti tied the game at  4-4 with an RBI single up the middle. 

AJ Kuzior joined the seventh inning hit parade with a two-run single to push the Pacers ahead. 

Neumann responded in the bottom of the seventh with two RBI singles, tying the game again at 6-6. 

Both teams would be held even through nine forcing extra innings. . 

Neumann led off the bottom of the 11th with a single but Marywood was able to shut the Knights down the rest of the inning. 

Danny Tiedemann (1-0) pitched 4 1 /3 innings of relief and got the win for the Pacers. He allowed just two hits while striking out four. Tiedemann did not allow a run and yielded just two runners.

Jack Valentine pitched two innings of relief for the Knights and took the loss. He fell to 2-2 on the season. Valentine allowed four hits, two earned runs, and struck out three. 

The Pacers' Austin Bausman did not allow an earned run in three innings. 

Marywood will continue Atlantic East Conference play hosting Centenary on Friday.
