Gatchalain's Pinch-Hit Double Powers Pacers to Extra Inning Win Game One; Pacers Sweep Centenary

Marywood Improves to 5-3 in Atlantic East Play

Hackettstown, N.J. — Marywood University earned its second consecutive Atlantic East Conference doubleheader sweep in a pair of late-drama wins. The Pacers defeated Centenary University 6-5 in eight innings and 8-7 in seven innings.

The Pacers improve to 15-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Marywood has won the past two Atlantic East series and sits in fourth place in the conference. 

Marywood won the second game on a play at the plate with AJ Giannetti applying a tag from Tristan Gatchalain

Game One: Marywood 6, Centenary 5 (8 inn.)

Cameron Kohut collected three hits in the contest. 

The Cyclones got on the board first with an RBI double. 

In the top of the third, Christian Michak singled, plating Kohut. 

The bottom of the third tallied two more runs for Centenary, an RBI double and and fielder's choice. 

Marywood rallied in the fourth, with runners aboard, AJ Kuzior laced a single down the left field line, scoring Vinny D'Auria. Nick Ruiz then hit a two RBI single giving the Pacers a 4-3 lead. 

Max Slusser added an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI single. 

Centenary went on to tie the game in the sixth with two RBI singles. 

Both teams were held in the seventh to force extra innings. 

Marywood would be retired for two quick outs then Kohut kept the Pacers alive with a single. Tristan Gatchalain was called for a pinch hit opportunity and delivered, hitting an RBI Double. 

AJ Jordan (1-0) got the win for the Pacers pitching in relief an inning ⅓ allowing just one hit and one walk. 

Nick Guiro took the loss for the Cyclones, he pitched four innings allowing five hits and two earned runs. 

Matthew Klipple earned the save, his first of the season, pitching the eighth inning surrendering one hit. He also struck out one. 

Game Two: Marywood 8, Centenary 7

Joel Ayers, Adam Ginsberg, D'Auria each got two hits a piece in the victory. 

AJ Giannetti scored the first run of the game with an RBI walk. 

The Cyclones earned their second run of the game on a bases-loaded walk. 

Centenary kept chipping away, adding three more runs in the third with a two RBI single and a RBI triple. 

The Pacers bats came alive in the fifth and sixth inning. 

Ginsberg singled on a ball down the right field line, scoring Michak. Slusser would follow up and hit a two-run single. 

The sixth inning, Ginsberg hit his second RBI single in the game. D'Auria plated two more runs with a single giving the Pacers a 7-5 lead. 

Marywood loaded the bases in the seventh inning and Ayers worked a RBI walk. 

The Cyclones scored two in the bottom of the seventh scoring on a passed ball and a RBI single. 

Danny Cossa pitched an inning. He allowed one hit and struck out one. 

Joseph Bruno captured the win for the Pacers pitching three innings surrendering two hits, two earned runs, and two walks. He struck out three. 

Marywood will host Centenary for the series finale Sunday.
