Marywood Falls to Centenary in Series Finale

Michak and Gatchalain go yard

Scranton, Pa. – In the last game of three against Centenary (11-18, 4-8 AEC), the Pacers (16-8, 5-4 AEC) hosted the Cyclones, Marywood came up just short in their comeback attempt, dropping the game 6-5.

The Cyclones opened up the scoring this afternoon, as a fielding error allowed the first run to cross in the top of the first inning.

The Pacers would quickly answer with one of their own in the bottom of the first. Max Slusser singled into center, driving in Vinny D'Auria to make it 1-1.

Both teams were held quiet until the fifth, when Centenary grabbed the lead back on a throwing error. The Cyclones extended their lead with an RBI double, which was quickly followed by an RBI triple, stretching the lead to 4-1.

The bottom of the seventh saw the second run scored for the Pacers on a homer off the bat of Christian Michak

Centenary quickly got the run back and some, as Joseph Frei cleared the fence with a two-run blast to right to make it 6-2.

The Pacers did not shy away however, as Kohut scored on a fielding error to chip away once again in the bottom of the eighth.

Marywood rallied for another pair of runs in the ninth, as Tristan Gatchalain smacked a home run to left, bringing in himself and AJ Giannetti.

The Pacers trailed by a run but the Cyclones were able to get the final out of the inning to edge Marywood 6-5.

Adam Ginsberg, Christian Michak, and AJ Giannetti all recorded two hits a piece in the loss.

Gatchalain's two RBIs led Marywood.

It was all hands on deck for the Pacer's pitching staff, as Michael Aronica (3 IP), Owen Reilly (2 IP), Austin Bausman (3 IP), and Danny Becker (1 IP) collectively allowed five earned runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out nine.

Reilly got the loss falling to 1-2 on the season.

Marywood is back in action on Tuesday, as they head south for a matchup with King's College.
