Pacers Drops Twinbill to Marymount

McNally homers in game two

Scranton, Pa. - The Marywood softball team dropped both games of their double header today, losing 5-3 and 6-3 to the Marymount University Saints (14-12-1, 7-2 AEC). With the losses, the team drops to 13-9 (4-4 AEC).

Game 1: Marymount 5, Marywood 3

The Saints jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the second inning.

Marymount wasted no time adding to the lead, as they rallied for four more runs in the top half of the fourth. The inning included an RBI double, an RBI single, and a two-run home run off the bat of Shanyn Burch.

The Pacers were able to get one run back in the bottom half of the fourth, as Renee McDonald scored on a single from Abbey Stalter.

Marywood rallied late with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The scoring came on a single off the bat of Marley Sarafinko that plated Alex Dusman, followed by a Priscilla Grill single scoring Kat Davis.

The two runs were not enough as the Pacers would go on to drop game one by a score of 5-3.

McDonald was an impressive 3-4 in the game, including an extra base hit and a run scored.

Gregory pitched the complete game for Marywood, picking up the loss (8-4). In her 7.0 IP, she allowed eight hits and four earned runs, while striking out nine.

Game 2: Marymount 7, Marywood 6

Once again, the Saints grabbed the lead first. Two Marymount doubles brought in three runs in the top half of the third inning, putting the Pacers in a 3-0 hole early.

The Saints would stretch the lead in the top of the sixth, with a two-run blast off the bat of Kaylynn Johnson. An RBI single followed, as Marymount had scored their sixth straight unanswered run.

The Pacers did not go down without a fight, putting up three runs of their own in the home half of the sixth. Emma McNally blasted a two-run home run to right center. Emma Kim then doubled down the left field line, bringing in Priscilla Grill from second to cut the lead to 6-3.

Marymount picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a homer by Shanyn Burch, her second of the day, to lead 7-3.

The Pacers once again threatened and scored in the bottom half of the seventh, plating Sarafinko on a fielder's choice by McNally to cut the lead to three. Kim singled right after, bringing in McDonald to make it 7-5. Stalter grounded out to second next, bringing in Grill to make it a one run game. The comeback would fall just short, as a popup ended the threat and secured the 7-6 victory for the Saints.

Jessica Hanley led the Pacers on offense with three hits, with help from McNally who drove in three runs.

Sam Ferrara (5-3) started the game for Marywood and picked up the loss. Ferrara tossed 5 ⅔ innings, allowing six earned on seven hits and two walks. She struck out two.

Jessica Plunkett threw the remaining 1 ⅓, allowing one run and two hits.

The Pacers will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they host King's College for an out-of-conference double header.
