Radnor, Pa. – Marywood University salvaged an Atlantic East Conference baseball split against Cabrini University on Saturday. The Pacers defeated the Cavaliers 12-5 in the seven-inning opener and lost 12-4 in the rubber game of the series.
Game One: Marywood 12, Cabrini 5 (7 Innings)
Joel Ayers swung a hot bat tallying four hits and two RBIs in the contest.
Vinny D'Auria tallied two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.
Cameron Kohut had three RBIs, and
Adam Ginsberg scored three times.
AJ Giannetti got things started for the Pacers hitting a two-run single up the middle in the top of the first.
Cabrini responded back, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom half with two RBI doubles.
The Pacers rallied in the second, scoring five runs. Ayers hit an RBI single. D'Auria followed up with a two-run double.
Tristan Gatchalain and
AJ Kuzior also had RBI singles.
Cabrini added two runs in the bottom of the second with an RBI double and sacrifice fly.
The Cavs added one more run in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5.
In the sixth, Gatchalain singled, scoring Ginsberg. Then,
Cameron Kohut hit a three-run homer to left field giving the Pacers an 11-5 lead.
Ayers tacked on another run for the Pacers in the seventh with an RBI single.
Nick Notari (4-2) secured the win tossing four innings allowing seven hits, five earned runs, and one walk. He struck out one.
Danny Tiedemann recorded his first save of the season pitching three innings in relief allowing just one hit.
Dom Marotta (3-2) received the loss for the Cavs pitching one ⅔ innings allowing nine hits, seven earned runs, and one walk.
Game 2: Cabrini 12, Marywood 4
Tristian Galatchian went 3 for 4 with a run scored.
Christian Michak was.2 for 3 with two runs.
Marywood scored first when
Christian Michak stole home on the catcher's throw down to second.
Cabrini put three runs on the board in the second with two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
The Cavs launched a three-run homer in the fourth to extend a 6-1 lead.
The Pacers would go on and tack a few runs on the board in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from
Joe Yannelli, followed by a two RBI single from Ginsberg.
Cabrini rallied for four runs in the sixth with two RBI doubles and two RBI singles.
The Cavs went on to plate another run in the seventh with an RBI single and in the eighth, scored their 12th run of the game.
Michael Aronica (1-3) got the loss for the Pacers. He threw 3 ⅔ innings allowing six earned runs, six hits, and two walks. He struck out four.
Josh Colon (5-0) earned the win for Cabrini pitching 4 ⅔ innings in relief allowing seven hits and one earned run. He walked three and struck out four.
The Pacers will host Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) on Tuesday.
