Marywood Run-Rules Misericordia Game One, Drops Game Two

Gregory notches 200th career strikeout

Scranton, Pa. – The Marywood University softball team was back in action for a non-conference match-up against Misericordia University. The Pacers (17-9) went on to run-rule the Cougars (18-10) by a score of 12-0 in game one, and dropped the second game 9-2. 

Game One: Marywood 12, Misericordia 0 (5 Innings)

Emma McNally led the Pacers tallying two hits and bringing in four runs. 

The Pacers kicked things off in the first with a McNally RBI single to score Kat Davis

Marywood brought 13 batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring eight runs. 

Davis reached base bringing in a run. A batter later, Tori Para walked with the bases loaded. 

McNally hit a bases clearing double, giving the Pacers a 6-0 lead. 

Renee McDonald added another Marywood run with a RBI single. 

After a Cougars pitching change in the second with two outs, Jessica Hanley drove a two-run double into the gap.

Kaitlyn Eisely joined the hit parade and singled up the middle, giving the Pacers a 10-0 lead. 

In the third, Jessie Kmak's pinch-hit double drove in the final two Marywood runs. 

Marissa Gregory (11-4) spun a gem in the circle, pitching five innings while allowing one hit and striking out seven. Gregory struck out her 200th career batter. 

Emma Griffin took the loss for the Cougars. She pitched one ⅔ innings allowing three hits, six earned runs, and walking six. 

Game 2: Misericordia 9, Marywood 2

Davis and Hanley each had two hits in the loss.

Misericordia put up five runs in the first, scoring on an error, a double, and a stolen base. 

The Cougars would tack on two more runs in the third with an RBI single, followed by a RBI double. 

Misericordia added an eighth run, scoring on a fielder's choice. 

Marywood put two runners on base in the sixth. Aaliyah Smith reached on a hit by pitch and Alex Dusman singled down the left field line. Kmak came up and laced a double in the gap plating both runners. 

The Cougars added a ninth run in the seventh on a RBI double. 

Sam Ferrara pitched two ⅓ innings in the loss. She allowed six hits, three earned runs, and three walks while striking out one.

Erin McGee pitched the complete game for Misericordia, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and two walks.

Jessica Plunkett came in for Marywood, pitching four ⅔ innings while surrendering six hits, two earned runs, and two walks. She struck out four.

Marywood will be back in action Thursday against Keystone.
