Pacers Roll over Macs in Second Half to Secure No. 3 Seed

Marywood will welcome sixth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy in the first round on Saturday

Immaculata, Pa. — Marywood University secured the third seed in the Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse playoffs with a second-half comeback win over Immaculata University on Wednesday. The Pacers dropped the Mighty Macs 20-16 on the road. 

The Pacers will host No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday. The Pacers defeated Gwynedd Mercy 26-12 in the regular season. 

Avery Meighan scored eight goals and four assists for 12 points. She added eight draw controls and four ground balls. Meighan eclipses the century mark in points for the season. She moves into second place all-time in single-season draw controls (147) and points (101). 

Kaitlyn Smith generated five goals and six assists for 11 points. She jumps to second all-time with 32 assists this season. 

Olivia Stollsteimer tallied five goals for the Pacers. She was the team's scorer in the first half. 

Transitioning to goalkeeper, Kortney Harry made eight saves for the win. 

The Pacers welcomed the additions of Colleen O'Brien, Ally Duncan and Kate Kollar-Dye for their women's lacrosse debuts. 

Tori Smith scored two goals, and Toni Grzesek produced her first career point with an assist. Taylor Barksdale caused a pair of turnovers. 

Marywood trailed 3-1 early on before a run of three consecutive goals. Stollsteimer gave the Pacers a lead from a Meighan pass with 4:25 remaining in the first quarter. Following a goal from Immaculata's Jacki Murray to even the score, Marywood added three more goals in an 80-second space for a 7-4 lead. 

Immaculata outscored the Pacers 8-4 in the second quarter to go into halftime with a lead. Tessa Liberatoscioli scored a woman-up goal with five seconds remaining. 

Marywood came out of halftime with four unanswered goals. Stollsteimer scored the game-tying and go-ahead goals within a 12-second window. Smith and Meighan padded the Pacers lead to 15-12 before the quarter reached single digits. 

The Mighty Macs (9-7, 3-3) moved to within two goals late in regulation. Liberatoscioli and Carly Oberg added goals to move within two (18-16) with 4:19 to play. 

On a woman-up chance, Meighan scored from Smith with 2:18 remaining. Thirty-five seconds later, Meighan found the net again to clinch the win. 

The Pacers will take on Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
