Marywood Falls Twice to Centenary

Pacers secure the third seed for the Atlantic East Tournament

Hackettstown, N.J. — The Marywood University softball team dropped two conference play games to Centenary (24-11, 10-2 AEC) on Saturday. The Pacers (19-13, 6-6 AEC) are now the three seed going into the Atlantic East Conference tournament starting on Friday. 

Game One: Centenary 5, Marywood 4

Both teams were held scoreless through two innings. 

Kat Davis put the Pacers on the board first hitting a single to left field, an error allowed Marley Sarafinko to score on the play. 

Centenary surrendered back to back walks in the top of the fourth and Sarafinko drove both runners in on a double to left field to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead. 

The Cyclones rallied in the bottom half to score five runs. A two-run homer, a sacrifice fly, and two RBI singles gave Centenary the lead. 

Marywood would score one run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Priscilla Grill

Marissa Gregory took the loss for the Pacers. She pitched six innings allowing six hits, five earned runs, and a walk. Gregory struck out four. 

Game Two: Centenary 8, Marywood 0 (Five Innings)

Marywood would be blanked in game two. 

The Cyclones scored six runs in the first inning. Then would add a run in both the third and fifth innings. 

The sole Pacers hit came from Davis on an infield single. 

Jessica Plunkett got the start for Marywood. She pitched ⅔ innings allowing five hits, three earned runs, and one walk. 

Sam Ferrara and Jessie Kmak combined for four innings. They surrendered a collective seven hits, two earned runs, and two walks. 

The Pacers will look to rebound in their final regular season doubleheader against cross-town foe, University of Scranton.
