Marywood Capitalizes in Game Two, Drops Game One in Extra Innings

McNally goes 4 for 6 with four RBIs in doubleheader

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University softball team faced crosstown foe University of Scranton (19-19)  Monday. The Pacers (20-14) dropped the first game in an extra innings effort but would go on to run-rule the Royals in five innings in game two. 

Game One: University of Scranton 6, Marywood 5 (8 Innings) 

The Royals got on the board in the top of the first with an RBI bunt single from Jessica Stadler. 

Marywood responded in the bottom half of the inning pushing across two runs. Tori Para hit a liner to right field plating Priscilla Grill. Emma McNally followed with a RBI double. 

University of Scranton tacked on three runs in top of the third. A two run homer and RBI single gave the Royals a 4-2 lead. 

Marywood took the lead back in the bottom of the third. McNally laced her second RBI double of the game. Jessica Hanley, with runners at second and third, hit a single down the left field line to give the Pacers a 5-4 lead. 

The Royals tied the game on a RBI single from Sarah Stepnowski. 

The Pacers were held scoreless to force extra innings. 

University of Scranton went on to score in the top of the eighth on a RBI double from Alexa Bruno. 

Marissa Gregory took the loss for the Pacers, falling to 12-6 on the season. She surrendered 10 hits, four earned runs, and one walk in the complete game. Gregory struck out seven. 

Juliana Janezic (7-7) earned the win for the Royals, allowing six hits, five earned runs, and one walk. She struck out two. 

Game Two: Marywood 9, University of Scranton 1 (5 Innings)

The Pacers scattered 12 hits to take game two in five innings. 

McNally gave the Pacers the first run of the game with a RBI single up the middle. 

In the top of the third, the Royals tied it up on an error. 

Marywood rallied in the bottom half, scoring five. Para got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly. McNally continued her hot day at the plate hitting an RBI single to right field. Morgan Sakulich added two more runs on a single up the middle, and Sam Ferrara joined in on the RBI parade with a single to right field, giving the Pacers a 6-1 lead. 

The Pacers, in the fifth, enforced a run-rule on the Royals. Kat Davis singled to center, scoring Alex Dusman. Para walked it off, hitting a double to the left center wall to plate Abbey Stalter and Davis. 

Ferrara (8-5) pitched all five innings while allowing just two hits and two walks, the lone Royals run was unearned. She struck out three. 

Emma Tirollo (2-1) took the loss, pitching two innings while allowing three hits, three earned runs, and one walk. 

The Pacers will be back in action on Friday in the opening round of Atlantic East Conference tournament play with match-ups against Neumann and host-team Marymount.
