Gregory Powers Pacers to Game One Victory in Doubleheader Split

Pacers earns third shutout win

Scranton, Pa. - The Marywood University softball team (11-7, 4-2 AEC) split in conference action against Gwynedd Mercy (8-12, 2-2 AEC). The Pacers would go on to shut out the Griffins in the game one victory.  

Game 1: Marywood 3, Neumann 0

Marissa Gregory led the way for the Pacers both on the mound and at the plate. She went two for three at the plate with two RBIs. Gregory also struck out 11 Griffins. 

The Pacers got things started quickly, scoring in the bottom of the first. 

Kat Davis got on with a bunt single. Davis stole second then, Tori Para roped a double over the center fielder's head. 

Marywood would strike again in the bottom of the fourth when Gregory hit a single to up the middle scoring Jessica Hanley and Emma McNally

Gregory improves to 7-3 overall, throwing her third shutout of the season. She threw a complete game allowing just three hits and one walk. 

Emily Murphy took the loss for the Griffins. She allowed six hits, two earned runs, and five walks in the contest. 

Game Two: Gwynedd Mercy 3, Marywood 1

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the first with a RBI double to center field. 

Gwynedd Mercy added two more in the top of the fourth with an RBI double and a fielder's choice. 

The Pacers got one run on the board in the bottom of the sixth. McNally led off the inning with a double. She would then score on an RBI double from Hanley. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Marywood tried to make a comeback. Alex Dusman came in to pinch hit, where she would go on to have an 18-pitch at bat resulting in a walk.

Two quick outs were made before Marley Sarafinko singled, advancing Dusman to second. 

However, the Griffins were able to get the final out to secure the win. 

Sam Ferrara (4-2) took the loss. She pitched the complete game allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and two walks. Ferrara struck out five. 

Jocelyn Baumeister (4-3) earned the win for the Griffins allowing six hits, one run, and one walk. She struck out 11. 

The Pacers will be on the road Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Albright.
