Butash Claims 100th Victory in Pacers' Sweep

Marissa Gregory ties single-season saves record

Reading, Pa. — Marywood University head softball coach John Butash won his 100th career victory in the Pacers' doubleheader sweep over Albright College on Tuesday. The Pacers defeated the Lions by scores of 9-0 and 8-5.

Marissa Gregory tied the Marywood single-season school record with her fourth save. Gregory also earned a win. Over two games, she allowed just one hit in nine scoreless innings. She finished with nine strikeouts.

Kat Davis stole five bases on the day.

Game 1: Marywood 9, Albright 0 (6 inn.)

Marywood opened with a six-run first inning to defeat Albright in the opener.

Gregory pitched a one-hit complete game shutout. She struck out four and allowed one error.

Priscilla Grill reached base four times. Grill went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a walk.

Jessica Hanley doubled and reached base three times. Emma McNally homered and drove in two RBIs. Kat Davis stole three bases and went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Katelyn Eisely scored twice.

In the top of the first inning, Davis and Marley Sarafinko led off with walks, and Lianna Horner reached on a hit by a pitch. Grill hit an infield single to score the first run. Gregory followed with a single to left field, and Hanley walked in a run.

Alex Dusman walked in a run, followed by a Davis RBI single to take a 6-0 lead.

McNally hit a two-run home run to initiate the run rule.

Game 2: Marywood 8, Albright 5

Marywood held onto a three-run lead to defeat the Lions. Gregory tied the career saves record by closing out the three perfect innings.

Both Jessica Hanley and Renee McDonald went 3 for 4 with two runs, two RBIs, and a double.

Kat Davis, Marley Sarafinko and Alex Dusman each finished with two hits. Emma Kim drove in two RBIs.

Like the opener, Marywood had a big first inning. To open the game, Davis led off with a bunt single. Sarafinko hit an infield single. Jess Hanley doubled to left field to clear the bases and take a 2-0 lead. McDonald singled in a run, and Morgan Sakulich tacked on another run.

Albright added a run in the bottom of the first inning. Emma Breschard reached on an error that scored a run, cutting the Pacers' lead to 4-1.

Marywood (13-7) added three more runs in the second. McDonald doubled to center field to add a run, and Kim singled up the middle to bring in two runs for a 7-1 lead.

Albright added two runs in the second. The Lions moved within two (7-5) on a bases-loaded Madison Lasko double in the fourth.

Gregory came into the game in the fifth inning and struck out the side swinging.

Sam Ferrara captured her fifth win of the season. She allowed four earned runs in four innings.

Marywood hosts Misericordia University on Thursday.
