Marywood Fall In Heartbreaker Against Eastern

Pacers hit three sacrifice flies in the effort

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University fell to Eastern University 9-8 Tuesday in a non-conference baseball thriller. The Eagles erased a five-run deficit and scored the game-winning run in the ninth.

Adam Ginsberg plated the first run of the game on a fielder's choice. 

In the second inning, Marywood rallied and scored four runs. AJ Giannetti hit a double to right center, plating Tristan Gatchalain. The Pacers then got a sacrifice fly from Joey Galantini. Christian Michak followed with an RBI single. Joel Ayers hit the second sacrifice fly in the inning putting the Pacers up, 5-0. 

In the fifth, Eastern hit a bases clearing double, scoring three runs. 

The Eagles took the lead in the top of the sixth, before a two-run double tied the game for Marywood. A three-run home allowed Eastern to regain a 8-5 lead. 

Marywood responded in the seventh, tying up the game. Ginsberg hit a sacrifice fly. Gatchalain then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Michak. In the same play, Ayers crossed home on the throw to tie the game. 

Eastern would score in the top of the ninth on a RBI bloop single to right field. 

Charlie Hamm got the start on the bump for Marywood. He went on to throw five innings, allowing three hits, three runs, and two walks, while striking out four. 

Colton Rimehimer and Danny Becker combined for one inning in relief, surrendering a total of three hits, four earned runs, and two walks. 

Aidan Dolan and Brett Kugler each pitched one inning in relief allowing just one hit a piece. 

Joseph Bruno (1-1) took the loss for the Pacers, pitching the final inning and surrendering three hits and one run. He struck out one. 

Roy Corso (1-0) got the win for the Eagles, going two ⅔ innings in relief and allowing just one hit. Corso also struck out one. 

The Pacers will resume conference play Wednesday, facing Neumann on the road.
