Pacers Fall in Season Opener on the Road

Lahr scores her first goal of the season

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Marywood University field hockey team opened the season with a roadtrip to take on the Vassar College Brewers, Friday evening. The Pacers took the early lead on the Brewers, but would go on to fall 2-1.

In the first period, the Pacers were rewarded with a penalty corner in the 15th minute and put pressure on the Brewers defense. Cydney Lahr received the ball on a deflection off the goalie and punched the ball into the lower left corner of the cage.

Vassar responded with their own goal in the third period off a penalty corner, in the 41st minute.

The Brewers jumped ahead in the fourth period with a goal in the 52nd minute when Karina Hoffman shoved the ball to Sydney Kovel who put the ball in the back of the cage to give Vassar a 2-1 lead.

Vassar out-shot the Pacers, 15 to 9. Marywood did have more shots on goal, totalling eight to the Brewers five.

The Pacers won the penalty corner battle, 6 to 5.

Jenny Keagy made her debut in the cage for the Pacers and recorded three saves. Vassar goalkeeper Grace Wiley tallied six saves.

Marywood looks to rebound in a matchup on Sunday when facing Montclair State on the road.
