Late Comeback Falls Just Short in 4-3 Defeat

Hasty, Jones, and Tomada score their first goals of the season

Montclair, N.J. – Marywood University came one goal short of erasing a three-goal deficit in a 4-3 loss to Montclair State University on Sunday in non-conference field hockey.

Montclair State scored early and often, netting goals in the 10th, 13th, and 15th minutes of play to gain the 3-0 advantage.

Both teams were quiet for the second quarter, with Marywood trailing 3-0 at halftime.

The Pacers did not go away easily, beginning their comeback with an unassisted goal off the stick of Dariane Jones in the 31st minute of play, her first on the season.

The Red Hawks responded in the 34th minute, regaining a three-goal lead at 4-1.

With two minutes of play left in the fourth quarter, the Pacers powered two goals.

Marywood's Maria Tomada was able to rattle home a pass from Cassie Slusser, cutting the deficit to 4-2 in the 59th minute.

Just as time expired, the Pacers scored their third and final goal, being awarded a penalty stroke that Corrin Hasty buried in the back of the cage to bring the score to 4-3, where time would expire.

Montclair State out-shot Marywood 12-7 in the match. Marywood had four shots on goal.

The Red Hawks also led in penalty corners, 13-6.

Jenny Keagy and Sabrina Frazer split time in the cage for the Pacers, recording three saves a piece.

Montclair State keepers McKenna Laman and Sydney White combined for one save.

The Pacers will look to grab their first victory of the season as they host Keystone College on Wednesday, marking their first home game of the year.
