Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener Against Wilkes

Marywood records five shots on goal

Scranton, Pa. – The Marywood University men's soccer team opened up the season Friday night hosting the Wilkes University Colonels. The Pacers were blanked in the opener losing, 2-0. 

Wilkes scored their first goal in the 45th minute when Herbert Ramirez had a free kick opportunity from 35 yards out and booted the ball in the lower left corner of the net. 

The Colonels second opportunity came in the 87th minute when Elijah Emedoh-Kaba slipped past the defense to breakaway, it hit off the post and ricochet into the goal. 

Alex Visha had three shots, all being on goal. 

The Pacers outshot the Colonels (12-5), and had more shots on goal (7-3). Wilkes won the corner kick battle, having seven, compared to Marywood's one. 

Niko Leibkuchler recorded one save on the day. Wilkes keeper, Matthew Conti, recorded seven saves. 

The Pacers will be back in action at home on Sunday with a match-up against Utica University.
