Marywood Powers over Keystone Giants, 5-1

Gomez notches two goals

Scranton, Pa. – In the cross-county battle on the pitch, the Marywood University men's soccer team routed Keystone College Giants 5-1 on Wednesday. Danny Gomez tallied two goals in the affair. 

Marywood wasted no time getting on the board, scoring 43 seconds after the opening whistle blew. Jason Tordy buried an unassisted goal in the lower left corner of the net, beating the goalie and grabbing the 1-0 advantage. 

The Pacers would add to the lead in the 26th minute, as Alex Visha finished off a beautiful pass from Isaiah Meals to put Marywood ahead 2-0. 

In the 38th minute of play, Keystone was able to grab one back and cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Zamani Munthali recorded the goal for the Giants on an assist from Aidan Albertson. 

The teams would go into the half with Marywood keeping the 2-1 lead. 

The Pacers responded after halftime with another tally, this one off the boot of Jack Forbes. Forbes was able to place one in the lower left corner to stretch that Pacer lead to 3-1. 

Gomez got in on the scoring fun with his first of the game, coming in the 60th minute. Gomez put Marywood up 4-1 with his first of the season. 

In the 69th minute, Gomez netted another, finishing off a Brian Tacuri pass. This extended the lead to 5-1 in favor of the Pacers, where it would finish. 

Kelton Ostrander was in net for Marywood this evening, recording four saves in his 90 minutes of work. 

Keystone's Hector Oliva was able to total six saves of his own. 

The Pacers topped the Giants in both shots and shots on goal, at 20-9 and 11-5 respectively. 

Both teams had four corners apiece. 

Marywood travels to FDU-Florham on Saturday for their next matchup.
