Marywood Comes Up Short in Crosstown Match Up

Dariane Jones records her fifth goal of the season

Scranton, Pa. – On a beautiful Wednesday evening, the Marywood University Pacers (2-3) traveled across town to square off with the Royals (4-1) of the University of Scranton in a highly touted non-conference matchup on the turf.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first half of play.

In the 33rd minute, Marywood got on the board first. The Pacers crashed the goal, following up a penalty corner. Dariane Jones was able to sneak one past the goalie to grab the 1-0 lead. Cassie Slusser grabbed the assist.

In the 43rd minute of the match, the Royals were able to respond with a penalty corner goal of their own when Reagan Dolan found an open Annie Shaw who snuck one in the bottom left corner of the cage to knot up the score at 1-1.

Scranton added another goal in the 47th minute, as Ava De Natale was able to follow up a blocked shot off the stick of Maggie Keys and bury one into the back of the cage, grabbing the 2-1 advantage for the Royals.

An exhilarating final two minutes of play unfolded to finish up the match, with both squads seeing multiple fast-break opportunities.

The defenses once again held true though, as the score held for a 2-1 finish.

The Royals out-shot Marywood, recording 23 total shots and eight on-goal.

The Pacers fired off eight shots, five being on-target.

Sabrina Frazer played the entirety of the match in-goal, recording six saves on eight total chances for Marywood.

Scranton goalkeeper Julie Rogel was able to stop four of the five total shots she faced on the evening.

Penalty corners went in favor of the Royals, as they collected 10, compared to Marywood's six.

The Pacers will look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel north to the University of Rochester for their next matchup.
