Marywood Drops Tight Match Against No.21 Rochester, 3-2

Tomada nets her third and fourth goals of the season

Scranton, Pa. – On Saturday morning, the Marywood University field hockey team hosted No.21 Rochester University for a non-conference cross-state matchup. The Pacers (2-4) fell to the Yellowjackets (6-0) by a score of 3-2 in the tight contest.

Marywood wasted no time to get the scoring going, as Maria Tomada buried the first goal of the match in the 4th minute of play. The tally was set up by an assist from Dariane Jones

In the 12th minute, Rochester was able to even up the score at 1-1, which is where it would hold for the next two quarters of play.

The Yellowjackets pulled ahead in the fourth with a score just 12 seconds into the quarter to grab the lead at 2-1.

In the 52nd minute, Rochester added another goal and extended the margin to 3-1.

The Pacers grabbed one back on a penalty corner in the 56th minute, as Jones found Tomada yet again. Tomada scorched the pass at the cage, beating the keeper to bring the score to 3-2.

The Marywood comeback would fall just one goal short.

Sabrina Frazer recorded 13 saves in the cage for the Pacers, as Rochester's Kara Houston collected six.

Both teams were able to create opportunities, as the Pacers had 13 total shots with nine on-goal, while the Yellowjackets were able to get off 20 shots, 17 being on-target.

Rochester also led in penalty corners 14-9.

Marywood plays again next Saturday, as they travel to Connecticut for a face off with Western Connecticut State University at noon.
