Kozera nets his first of the season

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University men's soccer team hosted the Utica Pioneers (1-2-2) on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. The Pacers (3-2) would go on to fall 3-1 in the non-conference match.

The Pioneers got things going in the 12th minute when Brandon Pender spotted an open Martin Mendoza. Mendoza then netted the pass to give Utica an early 1-0 lead.

Brady Barnard gave Utica a 2-0 advantage in the 33rd minute when he laced a free kick in the upper corner of the net.

The Pacers got on the board in the 73rd minute when they were given a penalty kick. Nolan Kozera placed the ball in the lower left corner of the net to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

Utica was able to muster up one more goal in the 90th minute when Felix-Assa Loselose broke away from the defense. The initial shot was deflected and Carson Rother finished it off, burying the ball in the back of the net.

The Pioneers outshot the Pacers 14-12, nine of those shots being on target.

Marywood had seven shots on target.

Both teams recorded four corner kicks a piece.
