Pacers Unravel Chargers Behind Sorce's Brace

Lancaster, Pa. — Marywood University posted a 5-0 shutout over Lancaster Bible College Wednesday in non-conference women's soccer. The Pacers are undefeated through their opening two matches.

Josephine Sorce finished with a pair of goals. Sorce scored her 24th and 25th career goals.

Riley Mulherin totaled a goal and assists. Her 37th career goal move her into a tie for fourth place in school history.

A pair of newcomers scored their first collegiate points in a Marywood uniform. Le Moyne transfer Rylee Alston scored a goal and an assist. Mansfield transfer Britlyn Higgins tallied an assist.

Katie Baker found the net for the first time in her career.

In the fifth minute, Sorce opened the scoring with a 25-yard unassisted shot.

In the 27th minute, Alston cleaned up a blocked Mulherin shot into an open net. Six minutes later, the Pacers executed a flawless free kick play at the top of the 18-yard box. Caroline Plank dished a ball out to a sprinting Higgins, who one-touch supplied a cross to Sorce for a goal.

Just over a minute into the second half, Alston kicked out a throw-in to Mulherin. Mulherin lofted a shot to the far post for a 4-0 lead.

Baker capped the scoring in the 77th minute. A ball played into the defensive box was possessed by Baker. Baker striked from just in front of the end line, redirecting off of a Charger inside the near post.

Genevieve Morrison and Jenna Orr combined for a clean sheet. Morrison made two saves.

Marywood outshot Lancaster Bible 20-3 with a 15-2 advantage in shots on target. The Pacers held on to a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Pacers have won both games in the series history.

Marywood hosts to keep its unblemished record intact in Upstate New York when it takes on Hartwick College and Oneonta State in Oneonta, N.Y. this weekend.
