Jones' Goal in the 60th Minute Pushes Pacers Past the Griffins, 3-2

Pacers opened up Atlantic East Conference play

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. — The Marywood University field hockey team had a back and forth game against Gwynedd Mercy (2-11, 0-1 AEC), Saturday afternoon. Dariane Jones hit the game winning goal in the 60th minute to claim the 3-2 victory over the Griffins.

Gwynedd Mercy scored first, as Mackenzie Reed notched a goal off a deflection. 

The Pacers tied it up at 1-1 in the 14th minute. Olivia Seidel knocked it back into the cage, following her own shot. 

The Griffins took the lead back in the 39th minute. Lillie Uttenreither spotted Rhyan Poole who smacked the ball into the cage. 

All was quiet until the 55th minute when Marywood was awarded a penalty stroke. Addison Marcin converted, knotting the game 2-2. 

In the 60th minute, Jones stripped the ball off of a Griffins defender and was one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Jones drilled it in the back of the cage, putting the Pacers up, 3-2. 

Bre Marchiano was in the cage for the Pacers, making six saves. 

Griffins' keeper, Nikki Williams, made 12 saves. 

Marywood had 30 shots with 15 of those shots being on target. 

Gwynedd Mercy totaled nine shots with eight being on target. 

The Pacers had 19 penalty corners, compared to the Griffins' six. 

Marywood (6-7, 1-0 AEC) will seek to keep the momentum rolling, heading into Tuesday's game on the road against Stockton University.
