Men's Soccer Earns First-Ever Win over Marymount

Ryan Surowiec, Jared Sanborn convert penalty kicks

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University men's soccer earned the first victory over Marymount University in program history on Saturday. The Pacers defeated the Saints 3-1 in Atlantic East Conference action.

The Pacers win their third consecutive match. Marywood (6-7-1, 3-1 AEC) sets a school record for most victories in Atlantic East play.

Following an Erick Shoetter-Rojas penalty kick that gave Marymount an early lead, the Pacers scored three unanswered goals.

Ryan Surowiec scored an equalizer in the 38th minute. After being fouled on a bouncing ball in the box, Surowiec converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the season.

Donnie Powell tallied the game-winning goal for the Pacers in the 71st minute. On a counter-attack, Jack Forbes had a shot that was saved by Saints keeper Bayron Banegas. Forbes dished a pass back to Powell to rip a shot into the back of the net.

Marywood added to its lead in the 84th minute. Jared Sanborn went to the left side, evading the keeper's reach for a 3-1 lead.

Forbes' assist on Powell's game-winner puts the Pacers with 13 assists from 13 different players.

Marymount had a chance to equalize the game in the 79 minute. On a breakaway chance, Pacers keeper Ryan Schweigart made a stop on Jefferson Lopez Coreas' shot with the back of his legs. Shoetter-Rojas' rebound shot on an open net sailed high.

The Saints outshot the Pacers by a 23-10 margin with a 8-6 advantage in shots on target. The Saints had eight corners to the Pacers' five.

Schweigart finished with six saves.

Drew Smith recorded a team save for the Pacers in the 52nd minute. Smith closed down on an open goal to thwart a Shoetter-Rojas attempt as the last line of defense.
