Field Hockey Advances to The Atlantic East Championship, Defeating Manhattanville 4-1

Marywood heads to third straight conference championship game

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University advanced to its third consecutive Atlantic East Conference championship game with a 4-1 victory over Manhattanville College on Saturday. The top-seeded Pacers will host No. 2 Neumann University next Saturday.

Dariane Jones finished with two goals and an assist. Jones tied the Marywood school record for career assists.

The Pacers struck first on a corner opportunity in the fifth minute. Whitney Berge followed up on a deflection off the keeper and netted the first goal of the game. 

In the 18th minute, Jones spotted an open Lany Straub who gave the Pacers a 2-0 lead. 

In the 38th minute, Manhattanville scored its lone goal off the stick of Lulu LePage. Shannon Keena was credited with the assist. 

Marywood responded in the 41st minute off a penalty corner when Jordan Saybe spotted Brooke Barwick open, and she laced it in and extended the lead to 3-1. 

The Pacers knocked in a fourth goal in the 60th minute. Jones notched her second goal of the game, as Addison Marcin was credited with the assist. 

The Pacers out-shot the Valiants, 31-3. Marywood had 19 of those shots on target. 

Marywood also drew 17 penalty corner opportunities, compared to Manhattanville's three. 

Bre Marchiano was in the cage for the complete game, allowing a goal and making a save for the Pacers. 

Valiants' keeper Hannah Doherty made 14 saves.
