Women's Basketball Falls to Houghton in Overtime

Ciullo records a double-double

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University women's basketball team hosted Houghton University, Saturday. The Pacers and Highlanders closed out regulation with a score of 57-57, extending it into overtime. The Pacers conceded to the Highlanders in overtime, 69-66. 

To start the game, the Pacers went on an 11-0 run. 

Marywood had a convincing 35-25 lead heading into halftime.  

Houghton slowly crept back from the 15 point deficit in the fourth quarter. Knotting it up, 57-57. 

With less than one second left in overtime, the Pacers and Highlanders were tied, 66-66. Houghton's Olivia Simser knocked in a three, securing the win for the Highlanders. 

Marywood's Olivia Ciullo recorded a double-double, having a team-leading 15 points and 10 rebounds. 

Megan Cavoli (13), Jewlya McCullon (12), and Anyah Ortiz (10) each had double-digit points for the Pacers. 

Mia Blume and Tamari Hubbard each tallied six boards. 

Houghton shot 37.7 percent from the field, 26.7 percent from three, and posted a 75.0 free-throw percentage. 

Marywood was 44.6 percent from the field, 55.6 from beyond the arc, and a mere 55.6 percent at the charity stripe. 

The Pacers were out-rebounded by the Highlanders, 38-36. 

Marywood will look to bounce back Saturday, November 22, when they travel to Bryn Mawr.
